Who We Are

Somali Women’s Development Foundation (SWDF) was established in 2017 response to the Somali women’s suffering Violence Against woman and low Government representatives of the country. SWDF is a Registered, Women Right Organization, non-profit, SWDF is a Humanitarian relief, development and advocacy foundation, SWDF Provides humanitarian and development services and social development of citizens in general, and for the poor families led by woman in particular, using to achieve this prestigious means of humanitarian dealing and latest available equipment.

Women in rural areas were more prone to suffering the consequences;20% of women and girls from rural communities marry before the age 18. Women and girls were also subjected to resolve tribal conflicts. Due to the devastation and deplorable standard of living that Somali women were experiencing resulting from these conditions. 

SWDF’s objective is to combat the inequalities and hardship faced by women and provide support to these women in order to improve their circumstances, quality of life and position in society Established for providing support and aid for affected women who live in the areas affiliated to the aforementioned sector. Which included introducing women to the concept of democracy, involving women in the democratic development of Somalia and eradicating illiteracy.

The Foundation opened the Listening and Guidance Centers which provides psychosocial support and legal counsel for women, girls and female survivors of gender-based violence. These centers provide support services for women and girls, raise awareness of stakeholders from community groups, and empower women to elevate their own levels of protection.

SWDF is a leading Somali woman’s institution working in the fields of Woman Rights, Wash, health, Education and livelihoods in order to enable the target groups to play an active and constructive role in the process of transformation of Somali society from inactivity and consumption stage to the stage of creativity and production, which is the first step towards development.
