Enhancing Policies and Legal Frameworks Pertaining to Women Rights
SWDF has committed itself to reinforcing and developing government policies regarding women and adopting possible reforms for specific legal text in order to limit discrimination against women within the legal framework.
SWDF works on increasing the participation of women in political parties, government and all decision-making positions. SWDF supported government strategy on opposing violence against women by strengthening texts and it also worked with the Ministry of Women and Human Rights on a strategy to amplify protection for widows.
SWDF The aim is to find a safe legislative environment for women and girls that is consistent with international charters concerning women and for which the Somali government will approve. SWDF focuses on abolishing and amending discriminatory text in the Personal Status Law, Criminal Code, and Combatting Human Trafficking Law.
The foundation utilized the expertise and knowledge exchange approach with representatives of the Somali Government and Puntland Regional Government who benefited from their experience in managing safe centers for female survivors of violence. SWDF continues its advocacy campaigns within local and regional frameworks.
